Company Overview: The Andersons earns its daily bread on a mix of grains, trains, and corncobs. Founded in 1947, the agricultural firm buys, conditions, and resells corn, soybeans, and wheat through elevators and terminals located in the Midwest. Most of its grain production (67%) is sold in the US; the rest is exported.
The Retail Group operates six large stores in Ohio featuring More For Your HomeTM a traditional home center with hardware, plumbing, electrical, and building supplies, that also features a unique specialty food offering along with indoor and outdoor garden centers, extensive lines of housewares and domestics, automotive supplies and pet supplies. Its turf and specialty unit shreds corncobs into animal bedding, pet litter, and turf materials. The company's rail group sells, leases, repairs, and reconfigures railcars and locomotives. The Anderson family owns about 14% of the firm.
